Chances are you are doing a lot more "business" on the run these days, making your cellphone / smartphone a crucial platform.

Here's how to find what you need on the go:

Google Maps
One of the best apps for finding what you need on the go is Google Maps Mobile. The Java-based application works on almost all phones. It's good not only for maps and directions, but click the more information link and you can quickly call the business you're looking for. Essential.

TellMe
TellMe, now owned by Microsoft, may not get as much attention as apps from Google or Yahoo, but it's about as slick as you can get. It's a combination mobile application and voice recognition system that includes features such as maps, directions, businesses, news, weather and more. Available for a variety of phones.

Yahoo Go
Yahoo Go feature a variety of widget-style applications, including maps, directions and search. Yahoo's latest search app features voice recognition as well.

Free 411 Services
If you are used to dialing traditional 411 services to get information by phone, there's a slew of *free* alternatives that are perfect for using by mobile phone. They all have Web sites but you can also just dial the numbers below on your phone:

1-800-Free-411 (Jingle Networks)

1-800-Goog-411 (Google)

1-800-555-Tell (TellMe/Microsoft)

1-800-YellowPages (AT&T)
